Title: redline heaven!
Description: prepare for pics

trizzbizzle - February 23, 2008 04:55 PM (GMT)
so, the weather broke 30 degrees this weekend(first time in 2 months!), so i finally got around to sticking my nose in storage and started sorting boxes and whatnot. much to my surprise, i came across a box suspiciously marked "redline cars/loose cars". needless to say, i was intrigued, so i brought it home to have a looksee. all i can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!

i'm in complete disbelief of what i found. i think i might have an idea what it feels like to discover buried treasure now, lol. enjoy the pics!

lol. you and me both! i haven't been able to stop looking at them since yesterday, lol! i knew he had redlines, but had no idea how much neat stuff he had from that era. all of this stuff will definitely be staying in the family for generations to come.

MJ, i found several deoras, but they are in rough shape. there are actually about 200 more redline beaters that i did'nt photograph!

redovermind - February 23, 2008 06:18 PM (GMT)
thats just crazy. is there any camaros in there?

it must be a blast going though everthing. i cant wait to see whats in the next set of pics

Bossman - February 23, 2008 07:14 PM (GMT)
Some absolutely stunning stuff in there (to me anyway). Love the hot heap, red baron and the heavy weights ambulance.

Thuntman - February 23, 2008 07:18 PM (GMT)
That is one cool collection. WTG !!

hoyhoy - February 23, 2008 08:45 PM (GMT)
I think I woulda soiled myself if I were you trizz! Congrats on the scores!

Personally, I see Nomads and a bug and a bus and .....

WOW!!!! Those baggie cars look like something special too. Hong Kong castings are rarer aren't they?

Again, thanks for sharing, brilliant stuff!

Varmintnv - February 23, 2008 08:59 PM (GMT)
Absolutely Awesome Trizz!! Like Greg, I nearly soiled myself!! Then all I could see was $$$$!!! Awesome collection of very nice redlines!!
The lunchbox also brings back memories. I carried a Hotwheels lunchbox for nearly 5 yrs!!

trizzbizzle - February 23, 2008 11:42 PM (GMT)
haha, thanks guys. i think i've soiled myself a few times the last couple days, lol.

hoyhoy, the bagged cars are hong kong castings and from what i can tell they are pretty rare. i will be keeping all of this stuff for myself and my family though. with so many cars, there is no point in selling the rarest and most valuable pieces anyway. honestly though, i could'nt bring myself to sell any of the redline stuff even if i wanted to. its just too freakin cool!

Bossman - February 24, 2008 12:03 AM (GMT)
Those baggied Dune Daddy's are cool... but if I am not mistaken there are some Redline collectors that do not consider them true redlines. I know that they say Hot Wheels... but if you look at the bottom right corner of the card... it says made for Mattel... not made BY Mattel. Maybe if Roy or Cougarcaat could confirm my comment, it would clarify. I am by no means a hardcore redline collector, just going by what I read on other sites.

thanks for the input. i noticed the made for mattel on the card as well. i'm not too concerned with value, but it would be cool to get more info on them.

ROLLINREDLINES68 - February 24, 2008 03:05 AM (GMT)

jedimario - February 24, 2008 04:56 AM (GMT)

trizzbizzle - February 24, 2008 07:57 AM (GMT)
thanks everyone! its a blast sharing these treasures with you all. i did some more digging today and came across a lot more really nice redlines and some other cool loose cars, so i got em organized and shot some pics. some of the cars are in previous pics but i re-organized everything and added the new ones into the mix. enjoy!

Unnnnnnnnreeeeaaaaalllll!!!This is some kinda lot. I was thinking because this collection is so large, when the first pieces go to ebay there should be a name for the sale/lots. Like;this HW piece is from the "Jacks" collection or the "Sams" collection. People who collect will remember the sale and be watching out for the next one and so on. ilovethissite

that's a great idea! i was thinking i would like to attach my dad's name to the collection somehow, to give him a little posthumous recognition for his accomplishment. that would be a perfect way to make his name known to the collector community. thanks!

Arizona Toyz - February 26, 2008 09:47 PM (GMT)
You hit the jackpot!

Were these yours?

If not how did you get them?

Congratulations!

Too much fun! I see a few "good" ones in there if you're curious. Pink Hot Heap (stunning!), red Deora, T-Totaler, '73 green Dune Daddy....if you're interested in value on the collection, email me and I can get you an estimate for insurance purposes.

The Wisconsin Daddys are quite common. Not worth much...just fyi.

Thanks for sharing,
Cary

trizzbizzle - February 26, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
Arizona Toyz- my father passed away recently and left me his hot wheels collection. these pieces are from that.

cougarcaat- that would be great! i am going to be talking to my insurance guy later this week so that info would be a HUGE help! thank you!

Cougarcaat - February 27, 2008 02:51 AM (GMT)
Condolences on your father's passing. Email me by going into my profile and I'll help ya out.
Cary

trizzbizzle - February 27, 2008 05:21 AM (GMT)
thank you for your condolences. email sent. thanks!

hoyhoy - February 27, 2008 06:05 AM (GMT)
Wow, your pics sure take me back.

I still remember being all excited for 2 whole weeks (I was probably 10 yo) cos my dad was going to take me and a bud to the S.S. Kresge's store, so I could spend my allowance on a new HW....

I was a little disappointed in the selection when the day finally came but I think I ended up with a green Tri Baby (but it was called something else then).

Would have been '70 I believe...

Thanks for the memories Triz! bikes rule

trizzbizzle - February 27, 2008 07:16 AM (GMT)
don't mention it hoyhoy. its really great to share these cars with people who appreciate them, especially after they spent so many years hidden away in a box.

glad these pics bring back good memories. going through these cars reminds me of all the times he and i would cruise the local flea markets when i was a kid, looking for redlines. i actually remember being there when he found some of these cars (back in the early 80's). brings back a lot of good memories for me as well!

finding these cars got me hooked on redlines. i've already started bidding on more, lol. this is going to be the part of the collection that i take up and continue to build on. redlines rule!

hoyhoy - February 27, 2008 11:37 PM (GMT)
Yup! Bit by the bug AGAIN! I'm glad your memories are good ones too Triz! Funny, it's not really the cars but the moments in time that I remember.

Cheers
Greg

Very nice collection you have!! The redline T-Totaller is a rare and very desired by some collectors. I had about 20 different colored Hot Heaps at one time but never a Hot Pink one! Congratulations on a great family keepsake, Barry

dcbm - May 26, 2008 01:12 AM (GMT)
congrats on the collection and sorry to hear about your father, was this collection from his child hood
let me know to with a pm if you are gonna sale any beaters to good reds I'm always buying them

trizzbizzle - May 26, 2008 04:17 AM (GMT)
thanks for your condolences. his collection is'nt from his childhood, he was already in college back in 68. he and i started collecting hw's together when i was about 4 yrs old. we collected together until i was 9 or 10. my mother remarried and we relocated out of state (and i moved on to other interests) but my father kept collecting, eventually amassing nearly 20,000 hot wheels! most are carded from about 1980 to 2000. all the reds in his collection were picked up over the years at a local flea market he went to every weekend.

sorry, but i won't be selling any of the reds he left me. too much sentimental value to put a price tag on them, even the beaters. i'll let you know if i ever look to sell any of the reds that i have added to the collection, which i may do every now and then as i upgrade cars.

MarieJuliette - May 26, 2008 12:24 PM (GMT)
We can all understand your feelings about keeping this awesome collection!
You have much awesome memories of your father from them!
Again, great collection!

CustomMustang - May 26, 2008 04:03 PM (GMT)
Jackpot indeed! Man that's a killer find!

I'd love to trade for the damaged TNT BP if you were interested... I couldn't buy it off ya.

I like that.

It must just be some good comfort to you to have these neat pieces close by and remember those father/son times out in the markets.

Great choice! I'm just glad you shared with us! coolshades

sorry sam, but i already set that bird free from her bp. the blister was starting to wear on the roof so i did what had to be done. she's the one pictured in the "my reds are multiplying" thread. i just could'nt bear to see such a sweet car being smothered in a wrecked bp. never liked cardboard anyway, lol.

and to restate to all who have expressed interest, due to the fact that these cars were inherited from my father after his death, and have extremely deep sentimental value to me. i will not be considering letting any of them go, be it for cash or trade. i have gifted two of them to two members of this site for helping me, but those will be the only ones to get away from me. this collection will hopefully be in my family for many generations to come.

i really appreciate everyone's kind words about the collection, i'm very proud of his accomplishment and dedication he put into building it. every single car was aquired through a keen eye and hundreds of hours spent strolling the aisles of his local flea market, sorting through countless boxes and piles for each one! no ebay, no internet, no classifieds, no collector's club. he walked that flea market every saturday and sunday (with me in tow many times) for nearly 15 years to put together the collection that was left to me. that's why i could'nt possibly put a price on any of the cars. knowing how much joy he got out of building this collection and also the memories of he and i hunting for them makes it impossible for me to consider breaking it up. quite the opposite, i'm working on finishing what he started and put together a complete set of all castings from 68-72, with all being in mint or near mint, with the many beautiful cars he found as the foundation. i'm not really looking into getting into trading and selling reds at all, just want a complete badass set of all castings and i'm out!
