David Tilley - April 6, 2008 02:12 AM (GMT)
Hi all,

Well, as I try to catch back up on things, I thougth I would start by showing off a model that Matchbox have put in the 2008 basic range that can be found in 2 different versions.

This is the MB63 Dirt Hauler. As can be seen you can get an orange or red dump on the back. The orange is the initial release but was quickly changed to red, as it was felt there was possibly too much orange in teh current releases. It is going to be a pretty hard variation to get.

Keep an eye out. If you find an orange, pick it up. You may not see it again.

Alright David! I'm on the job!!!!!

That's pretty neat to see actually! Always takes a while for these things to pop up here in Canada. This way I can "practice" looking for it for a couple of months and then all of the sudden.... there she be! belushi

You probably did. This model is one of Matchbox' longest running castings. It was first copyrighted by Lesney in 1976 and debuted in the 1977 range as MB58. It came in plain yellow, and then later on the rear dump bed was painted silver although the cab was still yellow. Later on, in 1988 under Universal's ownership, an alteration was made by removing all references to "Faun" on the model. It used to state Faun on the base and on the front of the cab. This warranted the model being re-copyrighted in 1988. Then, in 2007, under Mattel's ownership, the rear dump bed was changed from metal to plastic. This did not warrant a re-copyrighting and so the base still states ©1988. But it is still the same basic 1976 Lesney casting from over 30 years ago.

It has had a long and distinguished run in the Matchbox range.
